Ring Size Guide

A ring should sit close without gripping. It ought to slide over the knuckle with a little resistance and then settle, and it should take a gentle turn on the finger without spinning loose. Everything below is here to help you find that size before you order, whether you are choosing from our collections or commissioning something of your own.

1. One Measure a ring you already wear

   Take a ring that fits the finger you have in mind, lay it flat, and measure straight across the inside from edge to edge in millimetres. Match that figure to the inside diameter column in the table below. This is the most reliable method at home.

2. Two Measure the finger itself

   Wrap a thin strip of paper or a length of thread around the base of the finger, mark where it meets, then lay it flat against a ruler. That length is the inside circumference. Keep it snug rather than tight, and check it passes over the knuckle before you mark it.

3. Three Let us size you

   Come to us and we will size the finger properly with a ring gauge, which removes the guesswork entirely. For a gift, bring along a ring the wearer already owns and we will read it for you.

A few things worth knowing

Fingers change through the day. They are at their smallest in the cool of the morning and at their largest by evening, and warmth, salt and travel all swell them a little. Measure at the end of a normal day, with warm hands, and you will land on a size you can wear year round.

Width matters too. A broad band covers more of the finger and reads tighter than a fine one of the same size, so for anything wider than about six millimetres it is usually worth going up half a size. And if the knuckle is noticeably wider than the base of the finger, size to pass the knuckle comfortably; a ring that cannot get on is of no use, and a slight looseness at the base can be corrected.

If you are between two sizes, take the larger. Gold is generous that way, and most of our rings can be adjusted a little after purchase.
